Steps

How to size images for LinkedIn

LinkedIn crops differently on desktop and mobile. Resize to the exact spec so nothing important gets trimmed.

  1. 1
Upload your image. Headshots, banners, or post graphics — any size works as a starting point.
  2. 2
Pick a LinkedIn preset from the editor (profile, banner, post, company) or type custom width and height. Lock aspect ratio to avoid distortion.
  3. 3
Download and upload to LinkedIn. Crop in the editor if the focal point needs adjusting for the target aspect ratio.

LinkedIn image dimensions that work

Profile photos that look sharp

LinkedIn profile photos display at 400×400 px in a circular crop. Upload at least 400×400 px — a square crop with your face centered works best. Avoid busy backgrounds since the circular mask trims the corners.

The profile photo appears small in search results and feed comments (around 40×40 px). Make sure your face fills at least 60% of the frame so you're recognizable even at thumbnail size.

Background banners and personal branding

The LinkedIn background banner is 1584×396 px on desktop. On mobile it crops narrower, so keep text and logos in the center 1200 px zone. Your profile photo overlaps the lower-left corner, so leave that area clear or design around it.

Many professionals use the banner for a tagline, industry keywords, or a CTA. Use a clean, readable font and test how it looks with your profile photo layered over it before finalizing.

Post images and link previews

LinkedIn post images can be up to 1200×1200 px for single images. Link previews pull a 1200×627 px og:image. Multi-image posts support up to 9 images — all should share the same aspect ratio for a clean swipe experience.

Document carousels (PDF uploads) display at 1080×1080 px per slide. Design each slide as a square canvas. Text-heavy slides should use at least 32pt font for readability.

Why it matters

LinkedIn image prep for a polished presence

  • Professional first impression

A correctly sized banner and sharp profile photo signal attention to detail before anyone reads a word.

  • Post engagement

Well-sized images display fully in the feed without awkward cropping. More of your visual means more stops in the scroll.

  • Company page consistency

Batch resize logo, cover, and Life tab images so your company page looks cohesive across all sections.

  • Article presentation

A 1200×644 px header image sets the visual anchor for long-form LinkedIn articles and newsletters.

LinkedIn image size questions

Practical answers about LinkedIn dimensions, ratios, and export settings.

400×400 px minimum. LinkedIn displays it in a circular crop, so upload a square image with your face centered. For best results, use a JPG under 8 MB with a clean background.

1584×396 px on desktop (4:1 aspect ratio). On mobile the banner crops narrower. Keep important text and visuals in the center 1200 px zone. The profile photo covers the lower-left portion.

Single-image posts: up to 1200×1200 px. Link previews: 1200×627 px (1.91:1 ratio). Multi-image posts: all images should share the same aspect ratio, recommended 1080×1080 px each.

300×300 px, displayed as a circle. Upload a square image with the logo centered. JPG or PNG both work — use PNG if your logo has transparency.

1128×191 px (roughly 6:1 ratio). This is a thin banner at the top of your company page. Use a panoramic crop and keep logos and text centered.

1128×376 px (3:1 ratio). The Life tab showcases company culture with large hero images. These display prominently, so use high-quality photos.

1200×644 px. This banner appears at the top of LinkedIn articles and newsletters. Choose an image that represents the article topic and works at this wide aspect ratio.

Yes, LinkedIn recompresses all images. Upload at the correct dimensions with moderate quality (85-95 for JPEG). Over-sized uploads get scaled down and compressed harder, losing more detail.

Yes, especially for logos and graphics with transparency. For photos, JPG is usually smaller at similar quality. LinkedIn accepts PNG, JPG, and GIF formats.

Profile photos: 8 MB. Background banners: 8 MB. Post images: generally under 10 MB. Larger files may fail to upload, so resize first.

Yes. Drop a folder of images into the editor, set consistent dimensions, and download them all at once. Useful for multi-image posts or company page updates.

Start with a sharp original at 400×400 px or larger. Avoid uploading a tiny thumbnail and scaling up — LinkedIn will not improve the quality. Crop and resize to exactly 400×400 px.

Desktops show roughly the full 1584×396 px. Mobile and tablet views crop the sides and sometimes the top/bottom. Test your banner on a phone after uploading to check the crop.
