Fading During Print?

If prints start dark but fade halfway down, your Power Supply Unit (PSU) is failing. Thermal printing requires high peak current. Generic adapters often drop voltage under load.

Improving Barcode Scans

Scanner not reading? Slow down print speed (e.g., to 150mm/s). High speeds can smear barcode edges. Also, ensure you are not using "High Compression" driver settings.

Driver vs. ESC/POS

This web test uses your OS Driver (Windows/Mac spooler). Real POS software skips the driver and sends raw ESC/POS hex commandsdirectly to the port for instant speed.

How to use this test page

This Thermal Printer Test Page is designed for 80mm (Standard) and 58mm receipt printers. Unlike inkjet/laser, thermal printers burn images onto paper using heat, requiring unique diagnostic patterns to verify head integrity and heat control.

Diagnostic Pattern Analysis

  • 1
Checkerboard (Stress Test): This pattern rapidly toggles heating elements on and off.If the grid fades vertically, your power supply may be failing or unable to provide enough amperage for dense printing.
  • 2
Head Integrity Check: Look for persistent white vertical lines through the black bars.A single white line indicates a "dead pixel" (burnt-out heating element) on the printhead. This is permanent physical damage.
  • 3
Grayscale / Heat Ramp: Thermal printers struggle with gray.Use this to calibrate your "dithering" settings. If the gradient is just black and white blobs, switch your driver to "Error Diffusion" mode for better photos.

Professional Maintenance

  • Printhead Cleaning (Weekly):Oil and paper dust kill printheads. Use an Isopropyl Alcohol (99%) pen or swab to wipe the brown heating strip. Never use water.
  • Platen Roller Care:Clean the rubber roller that pulls the paper. A slippery roller causes compressed vertical prints or paper jams.
  • Paper Storage:Heat destroys thermal rolls. Store spare rolls in a cool, dark place (below 77°F/25°C). UV light fades them in days.
